10. Poltergeist
Without Poltergeist, you would have no Insidious, or The Conjuring. Tobe Hooper’s master-class haunted house movie is still as iconic today as it was when it was released. The film, based on a story by producer Steven Spielberg, has become a pop culture staple: with its most famous line “They’re here” being used in everything from The Simpsons, Family Guy, and perhaps best of all, by Scully in The X Files. There is even talk of a remake starring Sam Rockwell, but let’s hope that it’s just a rumor, as there is no beating the original.
