9. Hellraiser

Clive Barker, wrote and directed this adaption of his own novel: The Hellbound Heart. Hellraiser introduced audiences to another iconic villain: Pinhead, the leader of the cenobites. The Cenobites are creatures whose interests include flaying people and other forms of sadomasochism, and are the residents of a puzzle box that lead to their realm. As Pinhead states, the cenobites are not angels or demons, they are explorers of carnal experience. Yes, it’s kinky horror, but isn’t that what’s scary? Clive Barker certainly thought so, and so did the millions of people who went to see the film.
