10 Crazy Films That Never Got Made
5. Gangs of New York
Martin Scorsese had been trying to make Gangs of New York for 20 years before first hooking up with Leo. The auteur acquired the rights to the novel The Gangs of New York: An Informal History of the Underworld by Herbert Asbury in 1979, when he was an acclaimed director of Mean Streets and Taxi Driver. Scorsese’s original plan was to cast punk band The Clash as well as have them soundtrack the film. Many will be relieved that the director never got his way, that is, until you see his finished film.
