4. The Brothers McCullen

The 1995 Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner, The Brothers McCullen is a success story with a very humble beginning. While working as a producer on Entertainment Tonight, indie auteur Ed Burns wrote the screenplay for this small character drama. Shot over eight months, mostly on holidays and weekends in his family home, Brothers was a real labour of love for Burns. Through the film’s success, Burns reputation grew tenfold. Not bad considering the film cost only $28,000 to make.
