10 Performances the Critics Missed
9. Tim Curry-Muppet Treasure Island
Never one to back away from a brilliant musical role, Tim Curry pounced on this great adaptation of the Robert Louis Stevenson classic with gusto. Playing a Long John Silver with a belter of a voice, he brings oodles of charisma to the role, as well as that kind of roguish ruffian feel that you’d expect from none other than Long John himself. He plays it like he’s having the time of his life, bantering with Muppets and eventually engaging in an epic swordfight with Kermit himself. Why it’s forgot I don’t know, as it’s hilarious, entertaining, and sympathetic in equal measure. Irrepressibly good.
