3. 2001: A Space Odyssey
While some people have deemed it a sensationally pretentious piece of rubbish, Kubrick’s 2001 is a sci-fi unlike any other. Full of iconic moments that you’ll have seen somewhere before, it looks unbelievably beautiful and features a beautiful, languorous classical score that ties in with the majesty of the movie. You’ll be stunned by the decades-ahead-of-it’s-time special effects, and you’ll probably wind up having a fierce argument about the meaning of the final few scenes at least once.
