6. Blue Velvet
Another Lynch entry, I simply couldn’t leave Blue Velvet off any list of films that will turn your brain to absolute mush. Lynch has an awful talent at exposing middle-class suburbia as a hotbed of sin and violence, and here it’s no different-with all-American boy Kyle Machlachlan discovering a severed ear in the grass in his suburb, an event which throws him headfirst into a terrifying world of sex, domestic violence, and Dennis Hopper huffing something suspect.
