This franchise has become a global phenomenon and made stars of Zack Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. The reason it’s so popular is because, through three movies, it reinvigorated the musical genre. Its success broke ground for other movie musicals, like Across the Universe and Hairspray (also featuring Efron), and TV shows like Glee to be taken seriously. Quite an achievement. There was even talk, from Efron himself, of interest in a fourth movie in the franchise. Hold your breath for College Musical.
