John Wayne built his career on playing American hero’s in the like of Rio Bravo, Stagecoach, The Quiet Man, and The Man who Shot Liberty Valance. So what on earth made The Duke think he had any business play Genghis Khan? The film, The Conqueror, was one of the biggest box office flops of the fifties, with everyone who wasn’t insane agreeing that Wayne was grossly miss-cast. Bad move Pilgrim.
