Ang Lee is a famous director for many reasons: winning Oscars for films about a boy and a tiger and one about two homosexual cowboys, his philosophical take on the Hulk, which was misguided at best, and his sublime martial arts film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. What makes the film so perfect is its attention to detail. Lee has every actor speak in the dead language of the period its set.
