6. Cloud Atlas

Based on David Mitchell’s novel, Cloud Atlas was seen as unfilmable for many years. You know how much the Wachowskis, who have never lacked ambition, love a challenge, and along with Run Lola Run director Tom Tawker, they brought the muddled universe of Cloud Atlas to the screen. While it’s not the best film ever made, it scores points for the fact that it makes any sense at all. Told as a series of six interlocking stories form different time periods and different film genres, the film comes together to tell the story of the everlasting soul. Told you it was ambitious. Another crazy ingredient is the cast, who play different characters in each of the six stories with small things like different sex or race treated like a barrier made of tissue paper, Cloud Atlas needs to be seen to be believed.
