14 Films Trapped in Development Hell
7. At the Mountain of Madness
For every film that Guillermo Del Toro makes there is at least one that’s stuck in development hell. No stranger to studio reluctance, so much that he eventually had to leave The Hobbit director’s chair, Del Toro’s passion project: At the Mountain of Madness, has yet to be realized. Based on the novella by horror legend HP Lovecraft, At the Mountain of Madness tells the story of explorers who find an ancient city that was populated by horrific God-like beings. It is the darkness of the project, and the R rating that the director insists on, that has studios running in fear any time it’s mentioned. However the success of Pacific Rim could make it easier for the film to get the green-light in the future.
