4. Time Bandits
Once again, this movie is one to terrify and delight you in equal measure. Made by the king of surreal cinema Terry Gilliam, it follows a bunch of bandits as they rampage through history making off with what they can. Featuring endless cameos by the likes of Sean Connery and John Cleese, it toes the line between going too far and becoming eye-rollingly silly and acting as a wicked, subversive look at childhood fantasy. A grim ending caps it off as one of the most consistently surprising children’s movies ever-and look out for the ridiculously beautiful eye for detail in every historical scene.
