7. Zathura: A Space Adventure
While this film looks now like the conception of the modern-day tween stars (with The Hunger Games’ Josh Hutcherson and Twilight’s Kristen Stewart featuring), it usually winds up written off as a cheap sci-fi rip-off of Jumanji. How wrong you’d be-ignore the fact that it’s got a magical-board-game set-up and you’re in for a treat. The kid’s performances are superb, and there’s a real sense of threat and menace thanks to Jon Favreau’s excellent direction. And, considering the budget, some spectacular special effects.
