11. The Exorcist
Would any list of great horror adaptations be complete without mention William Friedkin’s adaptation of The Exorcist? One of the only horror movies ever to receive an Oscar, it tells the tale of a possessed little girl as various people attempt to rid her of her ills-with mixed results. Considered one of the scariest films of all time, it owes a lot to it’s source material- William Peter Blatty wrote both the original book and the script adaptation of it.
