9. The Elephant Man
Lynch, King of the films that you never intend to watch again, excelled himself here with The Elephant Man. Telling the true-ish story of John Merrick, played by British thesp John Hurt, a grotesquely deformed man with a heart of gold, it’s hard not to walk away from this film despairing at the plight of humanity. A film that’s just too depressing to give another go, despite amazing performances and brilliantly strange-looking prosthetics.
