10. Sahara
The strange thing about Sahara is that, by similar movie’s standards, it was a hit; but with a budget of over $240 million, it had no chance of making its money back. The size of the budget is shocking, considering Spiderman 2 was $40 million cheaper to make. The reason: not so creative accounting. Rumors suggest that a sizable part of the budget went to the Moroccan government so the crew could film on location. Whether these transactions were all strictly legal remains to be seen, but, Sahara should serve as a warning to all blockbuster directors.
