The granddaddy of all box office stinkers, Michael Cimino’s follow up to his Vietnam masterpiece The Deerhunter all but destroyed his career. This steaming pile of a film not only made a pitiful $3.4 million at the box office, against a $44 million budget, it nearly caused its production company, United Artists to shut down. Adjusting for inflation, the film’s total losses were upwards of $114 million, proving the title to be something of a giant, hilarious misnomer.
