15. The Patriot
Francis “The Swamp Fox” Marion, the revolutionary that Mel Gibson’s character was based on, was not as warm a heroic in real life. In fact he was a slave owner who married his cousin (reports that he founded the town of Shelbyville are at this point unsubstantiated). Plus in the heroic final battle, the Battle of Guilford Court House, where he beats the evil English, the reality was that the American’s were the losers that day. Roland Emmerich doesn’t give a crap about history.
