5. Citizen Kane
And while we’re on the subject on movies that we can’t believe flopped…Orson Welle’s debut featuring Citizen Kane, widely considered the best movie ever made, did horribly when it was first released thanks to its revolutionary use of new techniques (like cutaway shots). This put off many contemporary audiences, but it soon found its place amongst the film buffs of this generation. Hurrah for that.
