5. Rosemary’s Baby

One of the most financially successful horror films of the “New Hollywood” of the 70s, Roman Polanski’s chiller Rosemary’s baby is a horrible nightmare put on film. Starring Mia Farrow as Rosemary: a woman who, after moving in to a new apartment with her husband (John Cassavettes), is impregnated by the devil. The story follows an ignorant Rosemary through her pregnancy and has one of the most shocking endings of any film of its kind. Adapted from Ira Levin’s novel, Polanski showcases what real horror actually is. A situation that we have no control over and will inevitably be our downfall. Now what’s scarier than that?
