Top 10 Halloween Scares
6. The Innocents
The grandest film on the list: The Innocents, despite being released in 1961, still has the power to scare. Shot in black and white to give the film an overwhelming gothic atmosphere, The Innocents stars Deborah Kerr as a governess whose charges and herself are haunted by malevolent spirits. Based on the novella by Henry James, the really scary thing is that there is no proof the ghosts are real. The threat could be due to the mental torture the governess endures from her charges. The film can be viewed both ways and be equally effective so I will let you decide which is the more terrifying idea.
