7. The House on Haunted Hill
A Halloween list wouldn’t be complete without an appearance from genre legend Vincent Price. He plays a millionaire playboy who, one night, throws a party in the haunted house. The challenge he sets his guests is this: they will get $10,000 if they stay in the house for the entire night. Predictably people start dying, but the film succeeds in the sheer fun of the premise and the joy that Vincent Price has in the role. It has also been suggested that this was the film that made Alfred Hitchcock decide to make Psycho. One hand really does was the other in horror cinema.
