9. The Ring
Part of the early noughties obsession with J-Horror remakes, The Ring, is the only one that can stand up to its original version. Directed by Pirates of the Caribbean helmer Gore Verbanski, and starring Naomi Watts, The Ring is the story of a videotape (remember those) that kills whoever watches it a week later. What the really unnerving part of the film is the tape’s star (and eventual killer) Samara. The stuff of nightmares this dead little girl has become one of horror’s most iconic images.
