10. Planet of the Apes
The recent Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and its sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, show that you can remake the classic Charlton Heston film for a modern audience. Tim Burton’s 2001 remake didn’t. While his film looks amazing, and Tim Roth as evil monkey man is great to watch, the film is nothing more than a tribute to the original. This was in the middle of a weird period for Burton: when he was at work remaking all of his favourite films, none of which are the work of a director at the top of his game.
