Top 12 Movie Franchises Coming to the Big Screen in 2015
7. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2
Jennifer Lawrence first took the world by storm as Katniss Everdeen in the hugely successful first movie of the Hunger Games franchise. Like all series worth their salt, dragging the last book into a two part movie is enjoyable for both the studios and the fans.
Mockingjay Part 1 is premiering this year, and the second part of that is due to air on November 20, 2015. Danny Strong is responsible for writing both parts of Mockingjay, and filming for the first one is set to begin in Atlanta, GA very soon. Because part one still has yet to release a teaser trailer, not a whole lot is being discussed about the second part, but for fans, every bit counts.
Some speculation was born of the recent death of Philip Seymour Hoffman and how it would affect the films, given that Hoffman was responsible for the role of Plutarch Heavensbee, one of Katniss’s main allies in the coming films, but production is set to move on schedule.
Mockingjay is based on the rebellion of the districts of Panem against the Capitol, of which Katniss has unwittingly become a masthead. The first part is most likely going to be set largely in District 13, with the second featuring scenes where the main heroes – Katniss, Peeta, Gale, etc. – actually get out into the battlefield.
The third book is very much about war and rebellion. It is bloody, full of strife, and Suzanne Collins doesn’t sugar coat anything. The movies are gearing up to reflect that, and won’t be for the faint of heart. But then again, rebellion never was.
