2. The Raid
While Hero was all about visually pleasing fighting that resembled a dance, The Raid is a much more ferocious beast. Directed by Welshman Garth Evans, The Raid centres on a rookie cop trapped in an apartment block full of killer criminals. Each fight has a freshness to it that can be played for laughs, or nail biting drama. While most movies of its kind utilize open spaces, The Raid keeps things claustrophobic with each fight taking place in cramped rooms or hallways. This gives the viewer that thrilling intimacy, of feeling they’re you’re in the fight themselves.
