For sure my favourite entry onto the list, it’s hard to find much wrong with this retelling of The Scottish Play. Yes, that’s right-whisper it-Macbeth. A black-as-oil vein of dark comedy runs through this flippant adaptation, with Mac being told that he’s destined to inherit a drive-thru and rise to glory by three stoner hippies. Showing at Sundance, it’s one of the less saccharine, more violent, and ultimately more faithful modernisations on this list. And Macbeth is his best play, so you should get into it as soon as possible.
