7. The Forbidden Planet
Anyone got any guesses for this one? It’s Shakespeare-in space! And while that might sound like the most terrible and cringey concept imaginable (and it kind of is), what better play to choose than The Tempest? Based around the banishment of a powerful man to a distant island filled with magic and mayhem, the themes actually tie in nicely to the retro space-age feel of The Forbidden Planet. The visuals have aged a little now, but it’s still full of charm and as sharp an adaptation as it ever was.
