8. A Man-made Village

Everything in the film you see is actually man-made-to an extent, of course. The houses, playgrounds and sandlot were actually built specifically for the film-with even an oak tree being erected especially for the movie. Production designer Chester Kaczenski had apparently been walking past a man chopping one down, and offered to take it off his hands-and it then cropped up in the movie, making it the most unlikely star oak in the history of cinema!
