7. Election
Alexander Payne’s high-school comedy about the battle of wits between goody-goody Reese Witherspoon and her prickly teacher Matthew Broderick ends with her working in politics and him as a tour guide where gets to torment children like her. However, that ending took over a year to come up with-the film originally ended with Broderick working as a car salesman, when Witherspoon arrives, apologises for her actions, and proffers him her empty yearbook to sign. Deeply sad, and offering neither character the ending they deserved, the dark humour of the real ending wins out.
