5. Americathon
This satirical film from the eighties offers less of a technological crystal ball and more of a societal one. Following the plight of modern America after it’s plunged into huge debt (check), the country decides to hold a telethon to raise funds. On top of that, it incorporates other familiar threads into the plot-a relative of a previous president taking office, the rise of China as a world power and an oil crisis hitting America particularly hard. Ouch.
