5. Singin’ In The Rain
What would a good list of musicals be without at the least a nod to Metro-Golwyn Mayer’s masterpiece? Gene Kelly as the lead, an actor with a bit more going on in his private life than the press would have everyone belief, is magnetic, and that performance-the one that’s been parodied and homage so many times but has never been equalled-is thrilling in it’s optimism. It’s a very hard film not to fall in love with, and one of the few classic musical to have aged as well as it has.
