9. Bugsy Malone
Kids? As 1930s gangsters? What’s not to love there? I don’t quite know how they pitched this movie to the studio, but I’m so glad that somebody picked up on what a great idea it would be. Jodie Foster stars as the dinky femme fatale Tallulah, while gang war rages between rival groups of besuited kids. It’s surreal, yes, but the kids look like they’re having an amazing time, and that make sit pretty hard not to get swept along with the silliness of it all. Look out for some amazing period touches, particularly in the meticulously scaled-down costumes.
