17 Hilarious Crew Mistakes in Movies
11. Chariots of Fail
Anachronisms are a big business in the movie industry-for example, bet you didn’t notice that the main character in Django Unchained was wearing a pair of historically-incorrect sunglasses for the whole movie, huh? But one of the worst examples of this comes in the 1959 classic Ben Hur- not only did we catch glimpses of wristwatches and people in anachronistic costumes (think: jeans), but there was also the famous chariot race scene to attend to. The scene, which took around three months to film, holds a very special place in film history-but it’s also peppered with mistakes. You can clearly see a boom mike in a few shots, as well as a well-placed glass canister meant to flip over the chariots in a controlled fashion. Most notable, though? A clear set of tire-marks in the chariot track sand. Oops.
