7. Shadowlands
A beautiful look at what older love can mean, the story follows older bachelor C.S. Lewis-yes, that C.S. Lewis, author of the Chronicles of Narnia-as he marries longtime American penfriend and poet Joy Gesham. It starts off as a marriage of convenience as Joy endeavours to hold onto her children, but the two soon find themselves in love. It’s a heartbreaking tale, brought to life by the sensational direction of Richard Attenborough. Bringing an author off the page isn’t always easy, but it’s succeeded with aplomb here.
