With the pressure on directors these days to deliver the goods at the box office, it’s understandable that they have one of the most stressful jobs. It can take only one film that doesn’t deliver the goods (Lone Ranger, I’m looking at you) to damage a career. Try telling that to these guys: ten directors who guarantee box office gold.

1. David Fincher

While everyone would like to forget the abomination that is Alien 3, David Fincher has carved out a career as a box office magician. First came the surprise serial killer sleeper hit that was Seven. This film started Fincher’s trend of making the dark world of serial killers into financially viable films. Only this man could remake The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo into a successful, and serious blockbuster. Add Oscar bait like The Social Network and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and you have a filmmaker who is an expert at making money in the less colorful places of film.
