3. Hound of the Baskervilles (Hammer Horror)

The very first Sherlock Holmes movie that was filmed in colour (all the better to see the blood), Hammer Horror’s production of The Hound of the Baskervilles remains one of the scariest and, yes, campest of Holmes adaptations to date. Staring Hammer favourite Peter Cushing as Sherlock put through an Oscar Wilde filter, and André Morell as Watson, Hammer to a gleeful delight in turning Doyle’s most famous novel into a rollercoaster of gothic horror and intrigue.
