4. Elementary
With the success of the British Sherlock, American television company CBS wanted their own version of Holmes in the 21st century, and so Elementary was created. In this version Holmes (Johnny Lee Miller in a role he was surprisingly born to play), finds himself in New York after bottoming out of his drug addled lifestyle. In a ground-breaking turn, the shows Watson is now female and played by the very capable Lucy Liu, as Holmes “sober Companion”. The show works like any American case of the week drama but with an affable and charming English twist. It makes you wonder why no one in American television thought of it before.
