5. The Great Mouse Detective
Leave it to Disney to create one of the most delightful and quirky incarnations of the great detective. The Great Mouse Detective follows Basil of Baker street (named in tribute to Basil Rathbone, who many still consider the definitive Holmes) the great mouse detective whose skills match that of the character he’s based on. What follows is a non-stop adventure, full of the trademark pithy dialogue that Disney is famous for, as Basil goes up against the criminal mastermind Rattigan. Voiced by the legendary Vincent Price, Rattigan is and iconic Disney villain who, in a great twist, feeds anyone who says he’s a rat to his big ginger kitty. This was dark stuff for Disney.
