3. They Forgot About You
The film’s signature track, a version of Don’t You Forget About Me, is now an iconic piece of movie memorabilia-but it very nearly didn’t get recorded. Hughes had a few ideas of who he wanted to record the piece, but his first choices-Billy Idol and Bryan Ferry-both turned down his offer. Eventually, it landed on the lap of The Pretenders singer Chrissie Hynde, who instead suggested her husband’s band, Simple Minds, give the song a go.
