Despite the fact that all the actors were meant to be portraying high school students of roughly the same age, there was a huge amount of variation amongst the actors-both Molly Ringwald and Michael Hall were just seventeen when the movie was shot, while Judd Nelson was twenty-six and Emilio Estevez was twenty-three. Hall had a large growth spurt in the movie, according to Judd-starting filming a few inches shorter than him and winding up half an inch taller.
