Alright, so this dramatic tale of love lost isn’t to everyone’s taste, but at least now it’s recognised as the ork of technical and creative genius that it truly is. Critics at the time panned the now-classic-“The love story that takes us from time to time into the past is horribly wooden, and clichés everywhere lower the tension”. While not every modern viewer would disagree, it’s still a gorgeous piece of period filmmaking.
