3. Cannibal Holocaust

Okay, so it might not sound like the scariest movie ever (what it sounds like, in fact, is a campy gorefest some washed-up horror actor might deem worthy of a paycheck), but Cannibal Holocaust is not only extremely important-it’s pretty terrifying. The importance comes from the innovative use of found footage, and the scary part comes from what that found footage has captured- a tribe of indigenous people who might just be cannibals. With effects so convincing the Italian courts demanded to see the cast alive and well, it’s a gleefully gory horror classic.
