5. Steel Magnolias

A truly very good piece of filmmaking, this movie really earns the buckets of tears that it elicits from you across the three acts. An adaptation of the Robert Harling play of the same name, it follows a bunch of women as they run and attend to a local beauty salon, forming friendships that will last forever (maybe). Keep an eye out for Julia Roberts in a very early role, and be prepared to learn the definition of the word “tearjerker” the hard way.
