The film did sensationally well both at home and abroad-landing it a Guinness World Record for the highest-grossing kids film ever and staying in cinemas long into the summer of the following year. In Poland, however, the film holds particular significance, as it was one of the first Western films to make it over there after the fall of communism. It is now broadcast yearly on most TV channels around Christmas, cementing it’s legendary status in Europe as well as the USA.
