8. The Evil Dead
And back into the lighter side of banned films! Although it’s generally seen now as a harmless horror romp with spoonfuls of camp ladled over it, Sam Raimi’s debut feature was once deemed too upsetting to show the general public. The graphic use of both implied sexual violence (committed by trees, of course) and explicit bloody gore set a lot of people’s teeth on edge, and soon the movie was pulled from cinemas. But it wasn’t long till Bruce Campbell and company made it back on screen, cementing The Evil Dead as a horror classic.
