8. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Whether audiences were put off by the mouthful of a name, the worthy setting, or the appearance of a new Affleck in the credits, this movie unjustly flopped where it should have done fantastically. Featuring career-best performances from Casey Affleck and Brad Pitt, it’s a slow-burning thriller that has an awful habit of staying with long after its (admittedly pretty protracted) running time is over.
