8. Scream
Although it’s not as if the horror genre is short on dead teenager movies to fill our screens with, but Scream really takes the cake as the one that broke the mould. It very nearly defined the idea of self-referential movies, with Ghostface stalking hapless students as he demands that they reel off factually correct horror movie knowledge. It’s difficult to get the balance of scary and funny right in a movie like this, but here it works-mixing genuine stalk-and-slash chills with meta funny moments and an enthusiastic cast, they’d struck onto a winner here.
