Ridley Scott and Russel Crowe together again! So howled the excited crowds in anticipation of Scott’s retelling of the English folk tale. Somehow missing out all that jolly larking-about-the-woods stuff and trying to turn Robin Hood (an almost constipated Crowe) into a new Braveheart was a thunderingly misguided choice at best. Cate Blanchett texts in her entire performance, and everyone involved looks like they’re on autopilot or just wanting to go home. A true exercise in dull.
